Questions to Ask When Selecting Your Wedding Entertainment

When selecting the music and entertainment that is going to be at your wedding, think about what your personal taste is, what your budget will allow and what will fit into the theme and style of your wedding.

In terms of music, there are three points during your wedding that you will want to have some form of music, which are the ceremony, the cocktail hour and the reception. For this, you may want to consider live music or DJs.

When selecting your wedding entertainment there are a few points to consider:

  • The level of experience they have

  • The references and letters of recommendation they can provide

  • If choosing a band, you know what type of music they play

  • Who their backups are if for any reason they can’t make it

  • Pricing, this isn’t an area you’ll want to scrimp on

  • You’ll probably be expected to feed (at least) the reception act before their performance

  • Watch them perform before hiring

  • Always see and sign a detailed contract

  • Don't wait too long to book, good acts will get snapped up quickly

Below are some questions you may want to ask potential bands and/or DJs:

Bands & Live Music

If you love going to gigs then it’s likely you’ll want to consider booking a wedding band. Bands will draw guests towards the dance floor as they’re able to interact and they provide a focal point for all of the action.

Basic Information

  • How many vocalists are in the band?

  • How many musicians are in the band and what instruments do they play?

  • Do the band members interact with guests and get the crowd involved?

  • Will you make announcements if required?

  • How will members of the band be dressed?

Experience

  • What type of deposit is required and what is the schedule of payments?

Equipment

  • What type of sound equipment do you use?

  • What is the backup plan if your equipment fails?

Requirements

  • What type of dinner, drinks and green room requirements do you have?

  • What are the electrical/power requirements for the band?

  • How much actual space and staging does the band require?

  • What weather conditions and temperatures would cause you not to play?

  • How many breaks will you take, and for how long?

  • Will there be a sign displayed at the wedding advertising your band or company?

DJs

Choosing a DJ for your wedding means there’s more control over what the music will be played at your wedding to suit your personal tastes. Keep in mind that a DJ can play 15-16 songs in one hour.

Basic Information
