Just because you’re working with a tighter budget doesn’t mean you can’t wow your guests at your wedding with these simple and effective tips.
Make the entrance to your venue dramatic
The entranceway to your wedding is your first chance to create an impression on your guests. In order to decorate or create an impressive installation, you may want to direct more of your décor budget towards this. If possible, place the installation within the interior of your venue entranceway, this will make the room look more heavily decorated too and guests will be able to enjoy it all night and not just when they initially walk in.

Add some interest through linens
Firstly, find out what linens your chosen venue has available for you to use; most will have a very basic selection in neutral colours. You can use these as a foundation to build upon which will allow you to stretch your budget further. Add more luxurious textures or interesting patterns and colours through napkins and/or overlays.

Concentrate decor in one area
If you have a limited amount of décor, create focus by placing it in a concentrated area that will attract the eye. Smaller, randomly placed pieces often have little or no impact on the overall design of a room.
Use in-season flowers
You can save money by knowing what flowers are in season. If you have your heart set on a particular flower but it’s out-of-season then look for a flower that resembles it, there are so many different species, shapes and colours of flowers available from wholesalers now, so have a discussion with your florist about what alternatives you could use. I wrote a blog post about how to use flowers in your wedding, which you can read here.
Alternate large centrepieces with smaller ones
Alternating tall and low centrepieces not only creates more interest in a room but will also save you money by having less large, dramatic florals which can get really pricey. If possible, you can also reuse the florals from your ceremony for your reception.
Using simple accent lighting on the walls will create a warmer and inviting atmosphere. Up-lighting areas of décor will also draw in eye to these areas.
Making your wedding personal to you as a couple and therefore unique is the best way to create a lasting impression on your guests. Think about what represents you as a couple such as your likes and passions and find ways to incorporate these into your wedding.

Found your dream venue but it’s out of your budget? Discounts are often available for weekday and out of season weddings. Most vendors, and not just the venue, will be more willing to negotiate lower prices in their quieter periods when they need business.
